Latvia successfully conducts the implementation of the largest international project of the EU’s Horizon 2020 regarding research and innovation program that began in 2016.

The total funding for the project is 9 ml euros, of which 1.16 million will be allocated by LETA to develop an automated broadcast and duplication platform for video news.

The Innovation Fund of the Google Digital News Initiative (DNI) has already provided funding for 437,500 euros to the Latvian national news agency LETA and the German public broadcaster Deutche Welle (DW) to start the project.

According to official sources of information, DNI is a partnership between Google and publishers in Europe to support high-quality journalism through technology and innovation.

According to the representative of the LETA research laboratory Renars Liepins, there are about 7000 active languages in the world, which limits the possibility of perceiving publicly available information.

This project allows you to receive and add the same video material, sounded in one of the 80 languages supported. To do this, it is necessary to combine automated transcription and speech synthesis tools.

This year, Google DNI allocated funds for the third time. A total of 988 projects were submitted, and funding of 22 million euros was provided to 107 projects in 27 countries.
