Opposition deputies of the Saeima offered to allocate 22 thousand euros to the search organization Bezvests.lv, and the CEC requested 111 thousand euros

The government at an extraordinary meeting on Monday did not support the allocation of additional funds in the 2019 budget.

At the same time, support was provided to certain technical specifications in the budget, in particular, the possibility for the staff of the Bureau for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption to receive bonuses for solving crimes, as well as the redistribution of funding from individual ministerial programs.

Opposition deputies of the Saeima offered to allocate 22 thousand euros to the search organization Bezvests.lv. Proposals for raising teachers’ salaries were also made.

The Central Election Commission also requested EUR 111 thousand for the exchange of data about voters on the Internet.

Nearly 150 proposals were submitted by factions, commissions, individual deputies, ministries, etc.

Coalition deputies did not submit proposals, since it was previously said that the coalition would not propose any initiatives to the budget.

The Saeima on Wednesday supported the draft state budget for 2019 in the first reading, and on Thursday, the submission of proposals for the second reading was completed.

Revenues of the consolidated state budget are planned in the amount of 9.2 billion euros, expenses – 9.4 billion euros.

It is assumed that in 2019, the Latvian economy will grow by three percent.

The draft budget does not include any money for the promised increase in teachers’ salaries, so the Latvian Education and Science Workers ’Union held a protest action in front of the Saeima, demanding an increase of 40 euros to their salary.

In the course of negotiations with the government, it was possible to agree on a compromise so far: 1.7 million were pledged to provide additional education.

After that, it was promised until mid-May to try jointly to look for an opportunity to find the missing money, so that from September the teachers would receive the required increase.
