NATO in 2016, under the pretext of increased aggression from Russia, decided to increase the military presence of alliance forces in Eastern Europe unprecedented since the end of the Cold War. At the same time, according to experts, the redeployment of US military equipment does not mean that the Americans themselves will defend the Baltic States since there is such a thing as second-class allies.
US President Donald Trump announced in October that the United States would withdraw from the Medium and Shorter Missile Treaty (INF). According to Trump, America would increase its nuclear potential until the rest “regained consciousness” then Washington would be ready to stop this process and begin to reduce armaments. He explained that this message was addressed primarily to China and Russia.
In turn, the Kremlin declared that they wanted to receive a more detailed explanation from the United States, noting that breaking the provisions of the INF Treaty would force Russia to take measures to ensure its security. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov assured that any action in this area would meet with adequate opposition
