During the military exercises “Nameis 2018” soldiers without prior permission will not use private land and other people’s yards, the commander of the National Armed Forces Leonid Kalnins said today in Latvian radio. He warned that the exercises would cover almost the entire territory of Latvia, and people do not need to worry if they unexpectedly meet soldiers or armored vehicles.

“People will see us on the streets, on the roads, in the neighborhood, if there will be units performing their tactical tasks in somebody’s real estate or in the forests,” said the army commander.

He added that the self-governments would warn their residents, and the planned restrictions in the movement due to the movement of armored vehicles would not be long.

The question of what to do if soldiers appear suddenly during the exercises in the yard was answered by Kalnins that this would not happen without permission, and agreements had been concluded with land owners in advance – only about 500 agreements on the use of territories.

As reported, the exercises has already begun today and will last until September 2. More than 10 thousand people will take part in the exercises.
