A police minibus crashed into a Maxima truck

A column of crews of the special police battalion of the State Police with flashing beacons turned on and sound signals was sent to Valmiera for training. The second minibus in the column collided with a truck Scania.

In the accident four policemen were injured, all of them were hospitalized; according to the specified data, two of them have been badly injured and two more people have easier traumas. The victims have been conscious. The circumstances of the accident are being clarified.

According to the Deputy Chief of Police of the Riga Regional Government, Ansis Pumpurs, the minibus driver is an experienced chauffeur who regularly attended extreme driving courses.

The company Maxima Latvija said that the truck involved was owned by their partner for cooperation, providing logistics services. However, at the time of the accident, the truck driver was not driving on the instructions of Maxima and was carrying another cargo. “We have contacted the company that provides logistical services for Maxima Latvija, and according to preliminary information we can say that in the road accident on the A2 highway, it was not our vehicle participating in the road accident,” said the director of the corporate relations department of Maxima Latvija Janis Beseris.

On Friday, within the framework of the military exercises “Nameis 2018”, the State Police together with partners conduct exercises in Valmiera and Jekabpils, during which it is planned to check and work out cooperation in emergency situations.
