The government today has allocated 6 million euros to cover the losses of public transport enterprises.

The money will be allocated to the Ministry of communication from the funds for unforeseen expenses in order to ensure uninterrupted transportation and partially pay compensation to the municipalities of cities of republican significance and enterprises providing public transport services in regional passenger transport by buses and trains.

Of this amount, 629,679 euros were allocated to the Riga City Council for the transport of persons with disabilities in 2017. A total of 102,773 euros was allocated to republican cities.

5 270 548 euros were allocated to companies that provide public transport services in regional passenger transport by buses and trains.

Public transport services under the state order in Latvia are provided by 26 carriers. with 60 carriers having contracts for passenger transport by buses, two carriers providing passenger transportation by rail.
