The deputy of the Union of “green” and peasants Askold Klavins can appear not only one member of parliament suspected of abuse of official position for mercenary purposes, namely, in data manipulation with the purpose of reception of indemnifications for transport expenses and rent of habitation. The Bureau for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption (BPCC) launched a large-scale audit of almost all deputies, Neatkarīgā rīta avīze newspaper reported.
The newspaper notes that the accounting documents of some deputies are really confusing – the MPs did not use fuel cards, but only handed in checks to the accounts of the parliament for the gasoline they bought. As a result, the investigators of the CPCB had to appear in the premises of the Saeima and take photographs of the enclosed checks.
During the investigation of the BPCC, according to the criminal procedure initiated on May 2, 2018, evidence was obtained that the deputy of the Saeima, performing his deputy powers, abused his official position for mercenary purposes from November 1, 2016 until May 2018, thus causing considerable damage to the Saeima budget. More detailed information for the results of the investigation is not yet available.
The deputy of the Saeima Askold Klavins (Union of green and peasants) refuses to comment on whether the Bureau for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption has applied to him any status, nor does he disclose details of the case in which he is suspected of abusing his official position, which has caused considerable damage to the budget of the parliament.
