A year after the head of the Bureau for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption (BPCC) became Jekab Straume, 34 criminal proceedings were initiated.

The Saeima approved Straume as chief of the BPCC on June 15 last year. A year before June 15 of this year, 19 cases were transferred to criminal prosecution.

Also, Straume, being the head of the BPCC, started several socially significant criminal trials, for example, against the president of the Bank of Latvia, Ilmar Rimsevic, for bribes, against Saeima’s deputy Askold Klavins for abuse of office and for corruption in the Eastern hospital.
