The recent scandal around the biggest ads portal in Latvia is gaining momentum.

The other day, the State Revenue Service (SRS) decided to suspend the economic activities of the Internet provider rendering services to the largest site for placing ads in the country.

The reason was their refusal to provide the SRS with information about customers who posted their ads and possibly evaded taxes.

As the representative of the SRS stated, “some signs in the ads portal regarding the cars showed that car sellers did not pay taxes.” According to her calculations, the damage to the country may amount to half a million euros.

Owners of the portal received 4 letters, as well as held two meetings with representatives of the SRS, but refused to cooperate. The company received an administrative fine, and also ignored it.

SRS explains that its plans do not include the closure of a successful business, but they required to provide data specified by law.

In response, the owners of the domain changed the domain name to a registered company in Luxembourg and continued to work.

Similarly, the owners of ss.lv do not agree that the current laws require them to disclose information about third parties, as well as the fact that the refusal is punishable.
