The Riga City Council’s property department received an additional 2.56 million euros this year from owners of degrading buildings.
It became possible to receive additional money to the city treasury due to the fact that a higher real estate tax rate is applied to such buildings.
Owners of the most famous ruins of Riga face a large fine.
In total 160 objects in Riga has the status of degrading buildings with a special tax rate.
Last year, the proceeds from the increase in this rate amounted to 1.92 million euros. All money received in the form of these fines is credited to the local government budget.
At the suggestion of the commission, this year also 31 decisions were made to force making the degrading structures in order.
