Pope Francis flew by helicopter to Aglona to hold the Holy Mass.

During the visit to Latvia, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis flew by helicopter from Riga to Aglona around 15.30, where he held the Holy Mass.

Francis got to Aglona half an hour before the scheduled time.

The Pontiff got into the car on the landing place of the helicopter, and went to the Aglona Basilica. On the way, thousands of people greeted Francis, waving flags.

The service itself began at 4 pm and lasted an hour and a half.

The roads to the Aglona Basilica were lined with cars, and at the entrance to the temple a long line of people was waiting, being checked by the security service. Despite the unfavorable weather, joy was seen on people’s faces. Among those present were people of different ages, many people of the older generation and families with children.

After the Holy Mass is over, the pontiff must return to Riga.
