Latvia plans to sign an agreement with the World seminal storage in Spitsbergen about the placement of seeds samples of 180 plants there, which scientists considered the most valuable and interesting representatives of the Latvian flora.

The contract will be signed by the director of the Latvian State Forest Research Institute Silava. The placement and further storage of seed samples for Latvia will be free of charge. Expenses from the state budget will be required only for the delivery of seeds to the capital of Norway, Oslo.

As the Latvian party of the project explains, this step will provide confidence that the most valuable plants of Latvia will not die out in the future.
