Actor George Clooney has threatened a magazine with legal action following the publication of photographs of his children.

He accused photographers from French publication Voici of illegally taking photographs of him and his family at their home in Lake Como, Italy.

“Over the last week photographers from Voici magazine scaled our fence, climbed our tree and illegally took pictures of our infants inside our home,” he said.

“Make no no mistake, the photographers, the agency and the magazine will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The safety of our children demands it.”

Voici published the photographs on Friday.

The children, named Alexander and Ella, were born in June but the couple have not shared photographs or details about them.

Voici defended the publication of pictures, saying there was “public demand” for snaps of the twins.

“People love George Clooney and have been following his life story for years now,” the magazine said in a statement. “Those pictures do not put in danger Mr Clooney, his wife or their kids.”

Clooney is known for his starring roles in films including Oceans Eleven and Good Night and Good Luck. Amal Clooney is a human rights lawyer.
